This past weekend our World of Warcraft Arena team flew out to Columbus, Ohio to compete in the WoW Summer Finals- The last stop on our long road to Blizzcon. Our team needed to make it to the top 3 in order to qualify for the major LAN in November and in a toxic sea of meta rogue mage picks (the bane of our existence, if you didn’t know) it was not going to be easy. We had a long break in between the last AWC cup and the Summer Finals where we hoped Blizzard would give rogue mage the nerf it so desperately needs but, to no avail, RMD remains meta.
Our team started the weekend off strong, demolishing the North American team M2KC in a clean 3-0 sweep. This momentum carried over into our next match- One we were absolutely dreading. We met one of our biggest EU rivals, Diabolus, and their killer RMD composition. Facing Diabolus and winning was our guaranteed ticket into Blizzcon and based on every other match we’ve had against them this Season it’s safe to say we didn’t have high expectations.
Our team spent the last month before this LAN practicing and trying their best to find a counter for the seemingly counterless. While our composition doesn’t seem to be a true RMD counter, our player’s sheer skill was enough to take the win. We saw Loony out perform every other healer, commentators calling him “the best healer in EU”- His skills matched with Blizo’s insane off meta Warrior, Wildcard managed the impossible: We beat Diabolus and our Kryptonite! It was a long and intense 5 game match, constantly tossing back and forth! In the end we did it and boy was that win sweet.
Overall our weekend was better than anyone could have anticipated. Without that nerf our hopes were not high and yet we showed just who both EU and NA had to watch out for! Wildcard placed 3rd in the Summer finals and we move onto Blizzcon in November. We have a decent amount of time to perfect our composition and it can only go up from here. Be sure to follow us on Twitter, @Wildcard_GG, to stay updated with our WoW Arena team! As we get closer to Blizzcon we’ll be chatting with each of our players- Even asking them some of your questions. As always, thank you for your continued support- We’ll see you in November!
